It’s Lights, Camera, Action as the curtain lifts on the 37th People of the Year Awards this Saturday. With days to go to this year’s People of the Year Awards, host Gráinne Seoige is reminding people to tune into the annual awards ceremony – which celebrates ordinary people who do extraordinary things – this Saturday, September 10, on RTÉ One at 9.30pm. This year’s awards, which are organised by Rehab and sponsored by QUINN-healthcare, promise yet more heroic stories of astonishing bravery in the midst of great tragedy, of unquestioning self-sacrifice in the face of human despair, of sporting triumph against all odds, and of communities’ inspiring acts of solidarity in moments of great trial.

Special New People of the Year Award Announced for 2011 to Honour Importance of Friendship. TV duo George Hook and Brent Pope, and gal pals Rosanna Davison and Pippa O’Connor, have this week joined in a call to people to nominate their best friends for a special new People of the Year Award category introduced for 2011 – the “Best Friend of the Year” award. This special Award seeks to pay tribute to a true friend who goes far beyond the call of duty in helping and supporting someone – a soul mate whose great efforts deserve acknowledgement. The Awards, which are organised by Rehab and sponsored by QUINN-healthcare, will be televised live on RTÉ One on Saturday 10th September.

The People of the Year Awards, Ireland’s national awards ceremony organised by Rehab and sponsored by QUINN-healthcare, celebrates the country’s most inspiring citizens, and today (Thursday, April 7th, 2011) launched its 2011 call for nominations.
